Edward F. Sobus Jr., 70, the husband of Denise McNabb Sobus of Morris Street, Auburn died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018.
A native of Auburn, Ed was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1965. He was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, having served actively from 1966 to 1969 and during Desert Shield/Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991. After 25 years of service, Ed retired as a technical sergeant from the USAF National Guard, 174th Fighter Wing, Hancock Field, Syracuse. He was an avid outdoors man and loved hunting and fishing. Ed relished the time he spent teaching children how to fish and was an active volunteer and mentor in the annual Falcon Sportsman’s Club fishing derby. He was a devout Catholic and an associate member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, JFK Div. 1 as well as a member of the VFW Post 1975. Considered the "email king," Ed enjoyed his time on the computer, consistently sending jokes and political-themed correspondence to one and all.
In addition to his wife Denise, Ed is survived by two sons Paul Sobus (Becky) of Ohio and Mark Sobus of South Carolina; one brother George Sobus (Cindy) of Cicero; two sisters Beverly Beer (Tom) and Lori Lenhart (Tom), both of North Carolina; three stepchildren Kristy, Casey and Corey Galbally; five grandchildren Gianna, Zachary, Bryson, Kyle and Madeline; long time friend Kenny Kudla, whom Ed has known since grade school; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Edward F. Sr. and Helen Fritz Sobus.
Friends are invited to join the family for a memorial mass to be offered Saturday, at 10 a.m., Jan. 13 in St. Alphonsus Church. Calling hours will be conducted Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., with full Military Honors taking place at 7 p.m., in the Cheche Funeral Home Inc., 1778 Clark St. Road, Auburn.
