Frank A. Caruana

Frank A. Caruana, 70, formerly of Seymour Street, Auburn, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 in Matthew House surrounded by his family.

A native and life resident of Auburn, Frank was the son of the late Steve and Mary Sauro Caruana.  He attended Holy Family School, and later graduated from Mount Carmel High School. 

For 29 years Frank worked in the accounting department at the American Locomotive Company.  He served as the president of their Steele Workers Union. He later worked, for an additional 9 years at the Enterprise Car Rental Company.  For many years, Frank served faithfully as a part time employee of the Cheche Funeral Home, Inc. 

Frank was a vintage automobile enthusiast and collector.  He was a member of The Prison City Ramblers Car Club. 

For 51 years, Frank was the devoted husband of Philomena Cinotti Caruana.  He is further survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Carol) and Scott (Michele) Caruana:  a brother Philip “Ziggy” Caruana:  7 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Christina, Alyssa, Olivia and Parker Caruana as well as Brianna and Alyssa Shahin. 

Frank was a true friend to anyone who had ever stepped in front of him and as such he is further survived by his faithful buddies, Joe Cereo and Mike Villano.  Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Sharon Caruana. 

Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered Thursday, August 9 at 10:00 am in Holy Family Church. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 8 from 3 to 7 pm, in the Cheche Funeral Home, 1778 Clark Street, Auburn, NY.  Burial will be in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery.

The entire Caruana family wishes to thank the Finger Lakes Center for Living, Hospice of the Finger Lakes and Matthew House.

Donations may be made in Frank’s memory to either the Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn NY 13021 or Matthew House, 43 Metcalf Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.

Frank should be remembered as a kind and compassionate man with an infectious smile.  He was truly a wonderful family man and humanitarian.
