Michael M. Mazzeo

May 11, 2018

Michael Matthew Mazzeo, 67, of 3161 East Bayard St. Ext., Seneca Falls, and Lakeland, Fla., passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018, at his home in Seneca Falls, surrounded by his entire loving family.

The birds were singing in Auburn on July 15, 1950, the day Mike was born.  The son of Rocco Mazzeo and Irene (Standarski) Mazzeo-Bobinis, he grew up in Auburn and attended St. Hyacinth School and West High.  His father always called Mike, “Junior.”  Mike was very close to his maternal grandparents, James and Josephine Standarski; his grandfather, James always referring to Mike as the “Professor.”  He started working at the age of 15, with his father at Stott & Davis.  He moved on to The Singer Company where he realized being indoors and not being “THE BOSS” were NOT for him!  He immediately plunged into the construction world, and never looked back, specializing in siding and roofing.  Up until his recent illness, Mike owned and operated a very successful business for more than 40 years.

Mike was very proud of his last name, and became very popular in his Seneca Falls community, especially with the Italian residents.  Having worked on many of their homes, the homeowners would refer to him as “MAZZ.”  They loved Mike, often sending him beautiful gifts and imported foods.  They would praise him for his hard work ethic.  For decades, Mike worked seven days week, before deciding to “cut back” to five days a week.  His name was synonymous “hard worker.”  Mike was the “ultimate” provider, always taking care of his children and grandchildren up until his last day.  When he would take time off from work, he enjoyed many family trips to Hawaii, Florida, and South Carolina, with his wife, children, and grandchildren.  Mike also had a strong passion for golf.  He often spoke of the golf trips that he took to Hawaii and South Carolina with two of his close friends, Charlie Kelsey and the late Matt “Zoomer” Ferrara.

To know Mike was to love Mike.  He made everyone happy and he had such an infectious personality and smile that no one was immune to his immense charm!  He made everyone feel special and welcomed.  His home and pool were always opened for friends of his children and grandchildren.  He loved complimenting and being complimented as well.  He was a stickler for fashion and appearance.  Words cannot describe how much he will be missed, not only by his family, but by his friends and employees as well.

Mike is survived by his children, Michael M. Mazzeo Jr. (Erika), Brandy Forde (Jody), Scott Mazzeo (Shauna), and Sarah Mazzeo; sister, Cynthia Pierce (Ralph); goddaughters and nieces, Ivana and Krysha Pierce; grandchildren, Makaylah, Sean, and Keighlynn Casey, twins Emma and Iszabella Forde, Michael Mazzeo III, and Ireland Mazzeo; nieces, Nicole Brown (Mike), and Kelly Skinner (Lawrence); step-father, Joseph P. Bobinis; step-brother, Joseph S. Bobinis (Pam); step-sister, Ann Bobinis; mother-in-law, Marion Potter; sister-in-law, Christine Kriegelstein (Jim); son-in-law, Dennis Casey; numerous cousins; three great-nephews, and many, many friends.

Mike was predeceased by his loving wife, Valerie (Potter); his mother, Irene Bobinis; father, Rocco Mazzeo; father-in-law, Benjamin Potter; and Robert Yorko.

Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian burial to be offered at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, in St. Mary’s Church, Waterloo.  Burial will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls.  Calling hours for Mike will be conducted from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, at the Cheche Funeral Home Inc., 1778 Clark St. Road, Auburn.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Agheli, Stephanie and the staff at Brittonfield HOA & Auburn HOA for their utmost professional care, attention, and guidance throughout Mike’s illness; Joe Manning (Homecare Medical Supply) and his incredible staff for always being there for our every question and need; The Cheche Funeral Home for always going above and beyond the needs of a grieving family.  Your professionalism and care are beyond words and for that we are so profoundly grateful.  Last, but certainly not least, to Mike’s brother-in-law, Ralph Pierce and daughter-in-law, Shauna Mazzeo, your love for Mike and your commitment to his care from the first day of his diagnosis will never be forgotten, thank you.
