Nancy Galtieri Vanderpool, 82, of 53 Old State Road, Auburn, peacefully and gracefully passed away on July 7, 2018 after succumbing to a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, Warren, and five children at her time of death.
A first generation Italian-American, Nancy was born on September 5, 1935 in Syracuse. She graduated from North Syracuse High School and attended Syracuse University. She exchanged wedding vows with Warren in 1954.
A truly special person, Nancy lived a life of humility, generosity, kindness, compassion and unconditional love. She devoted herself to her family and was an adored and cherished wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Nancy was happiest when she was surrounded by her family.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Warren L. Vanderpool, Sr.; five children: Michelle Vanderpool of Richmond, VA; Paul Vanderpool of Auburn; Lee Vanderpool of Auburn; Patti (David) Mattox of Richmond, VA; and Marla (Duane) Carpenter of Richmond, VA; five brothers: Joseph Galtieri of Syracuse; Fred Galtieri of Newark; Louis Galtieri of Camillus; Patsy Galtieri of Liverpool; James (Joan) Galtieri of Las Vegas, NV; sister Ann Carocci of Liverpool; and fourteen grandchildren: Joshua (Heather) Dwyer of Richmond, VA; Amberlee (David) Dicken of Richmond, VA; Christopher (Carolyn) Dwyer of Richmond, VA; Lee (Lauren) Vanderpool of Hoboken, NJ; Tara (Travis) DeBois of Auburn; Mark (Jackie) Vanderpool of Auburn; Caitlin Vanderpool of New York, NY; Alexander (Amy) Vanderpool of Auburn, Jason Carpenter of Richmond, VA; Kevin Carpenter of Richmond, VA; Austin Mayton of Richmond, VA; Jake (Cassie) Kott of Richmond, VA; Nathan (Sarah) Kott of Richmond, VA; and Melissa (Thomas) Amato of Richmond, VA; and 20 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dominic and Fortuanta Galtieri, her sister Mary (Galtieri) Boiselle, her sisters-in-law Ann, Beverly and Gloria Galtieri, and brother-in-law Peter Carocci.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian burial to be offered at 12:30 pm Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours for Nancy will be held prior to mass from 10 am to 12:15 pm, in the church. Arrangements are by the Cheche Funeral Home Inc.
