Natina M. (Caramella) Orioli

Natina M. Caramella Orioli, 96, the beloved war bride of the late Rocco “Rocky” Orioli, of Auburn, died peacefully Feb. 12, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Bristol, Pa., Natina moved to Auburn and was the soul supporter of her family during World War II.  As “Rosie the Riveter,” she served her country in the line of defense by working in many factories in the area.  Some included building bomber aircraft parts in the Auburn Division of Buffalo’s Curtiss-Wright Corp., making tail hook ropes for aircraft carriers at Columbian Rope, and working at International Harvester, ALCO, and Dunn & McCarthy.  A communicant of St. Alphonsus Church, Natina’s greatest joys were tending to her bountiful garden and cooking and baking her Italian dishes and specialties.

She is survived by two daughters, Emily Scholz (James H. III), of Auburn, and Nancy Curulla (Anthony), of Syracuse; one sister, Anna Sperduti, of Auburn; four grandchildren, Jamie and Jeremy Scholz, Amy Beth Kelly (Jason), and Gina Aguayo (Brian Murray); seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband, Rocco, Natina was predeceased by her parents, Bennie and Anna D’Alberto Caramella; infant son, James; three brothers, John, Tony, and Joey; and two sisters, Carol Veccherino and Rosie Romano.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.  There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Cheche Funeral Home Inc., 1778 Clark St. Road, Auburn.

Contributions may be made in memory of Natina to the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry, 10 South Lewis St., Auburn, NY 13021.
