Thomas J. Samere, 69, died on Friday, March 23, 2018, in Vero Beach, Florida. Tom lived and loved his life to the fullest, always enjoyed a delicious Italian meal or juicy steak, and loved giving people a good laugh. He was dedicated to his wife Peggy, his daughters, family and friends, and loved being a grandfather (“GP,” at his request) to his grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life. Tom was committed to education, serving for 33 years as an elementary remedial reading teacher in Rochester, NY, Wilmington, NC, and Weedsport, NY. Tom grew up in Rochester and raised his family in Auburn; he and Peggy embraced adventure when they moved to North Carolina for a few years after they married, and more recently when they relocated to Vero Beach to enjoy the beautiful Florida sunshine. He loved the warmth and enjoyed his last few years being back on the Atlantic Ocean.
He is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Peggy (Rooney) Samere; his daughters Meaghan Samere and Julie (Paul) Labich; and his grandchildren Lucy and Zachary Labich. He is also survived by his brother Joe (Paula) Samere; in-laws Tom MacCracken, Mary Anne (Tom) Maye, Bill (Elaine) Rooney; close friends of 55 years Van (Debi) Giagios, and many loving nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Beatrice Samere; his brother Jim Samere; and his sister Mary Ann MacCracken.
Friends are invited to join the family for a funeral mass on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 am in Sacred Heart Church. All are welcome to call on the family prior to mass, from 9:30-10:45 am in the Church. Arrangements are by the Cheche Funeral Home Inc., Auburn.
